BLM extends public comment, adds public meeting to discuss proposed land conveyance near Payson, Utah

Salt Lake City – The Bureau of Land Management Salt Lake Field Office (SLFO) has extended the public comment period to July 19 for a proposal to convey approximately 528 acres of BLM-managed public lands to the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) for recreational development.

A public meeting will be held on July 11, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., at 439 W Utah Ave, Payson, UT, in the banquet hall of the Payson City Municipal Building.

“The BLM SLFO is eager to discuss the land conveyance project and any implications for local residents near the West Mountain area of Payson, UT,” said Mike Gates, West Desert District Manager. “We are actively seeking a solution to enhance public safety and address residents’ concerns about near-miss incidents from current dispersed target shooting near Genola. Everyone is encouraged to provide substantive comments during the scoping period.”

CMP is requesting the land in order to construct an indoor and outdoor shooting range facility and ancillary structures. Under the Recreation & Public Purposes Act, the BLM is authorized to convey parcels for development for recreation and public purposes.

The public can submit substantive comments on the project’s Eplanning site, in writing to the Salt Lake Field Office, 491 John Glenn Rd, Salt Lake City, UT 84116, or by email blm_ut_sl_comments@blm.gov. Please note, your entire comment may be made publicly available at any time, including your address, phone number, email address, or other- including personally identifiable information (PII) in your comment. While you can request to withhold your PII from public review, we cannot guarantee we will be able to do so.
